14001:2004 Certification Completed: July 2007

TOTE proudly announces its completion of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001:2004 certification process for environmental management standards.

ISO 14001:2004 is an internationally-recognized, independently-verified management standard for continual improvement of environmental management systems and performance. By achieving this certification, TOTE demonstrates its commitment to environmental excellence and quality at all of its land-based activities and facilities, with a focus on reducing both electrical energy consumption and non-hazardous waste.

Tahoma Environmental Business Award - Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber - 2007

In April 2007, the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce announced TOTE as its 2007 recipient of the annual Tahoma Business Environmental Award. Among many things, TOTE was recognized for its environmental care in the Puget Sound region, including operating a well-organized terminal facility, striving for ISO 14000 Standard for Environmental Management certification, moving toward bio-diesel fuel usage, implementing recycling and energy use programs in lower 48 TOTE offices, and participating in Earth Day and other volunteer environmental activities.

Washington State Governor’s Award for Pollution Prevention and Sustainable Practices - 2005

This award, the state’s highest honor, was presented to TOTE for taking care of the environment while doing business in Washington. TOTE was recognized for finding innovative ways to offer services while reducing or eliminating waste and conserving vital resources, as well as honoring business practices that support the vitality of the economy, the environment, and the community.

The U.S. Coast Guard Biennial William M. Benkert Foundation 2002 Environmental Excellence Bronze Award

Named for Rear Admiral William M. Benkert, who is fondly remembered as the father of the U.S. Coast Guard's Marine Environmental Protection Program, the Benkert Award recognizes outstanding achievements in marine environmental protection that go beyond mere compliance with industrial and regulatory standards.

States/British Columbia Oil Spill Task Force Legacy Award 2000

The States/British Columbia Oil Spill Task Force awarded its Legacy Award 2000 to TOTE in honor of its commitment to the environment and vessel safety by designing and building new cargo vessels with state-of-the-art oil spill prevention and marine safety features.

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner's Pollution Prevention Award 2000

TOTE was awarded the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner's Pollution Prevention Award 2000 for the design of the Orca Class vessels, applauding its double-walled tanks, use of a diesel electric propulsion system, and other attributes that go beyond State and Federal requirements to protect Alaska's waters.
