John Parrott
President
In December of 2009, John Parrott was named President of TOTE. Prior to this appointment, John served as Vice President of Commercial where he was responsible for all sales, marketing, pricing and contract administration, as well as Alaska public policy work. John joined TOTE in June 2002 as the Alaska General Manager and was promoted in 2004 to the position of Vice President/General Manager. John initially worked for TOTE as Chief Mate of the SS Northern Lights in 1992. He was present throughout the conversion of that vessel including the addition of a 90' mid-body section. In 1998 John joined Stevedoring Services of America as the General Manager for Sea Star Stevedore which manages the loading, discharge and terminal operations for TOTE. In 1996 he joined Sea-Land as a Marine Superintendent. John is a licensed master in the U.S. Merchant Marine, having sailed for ten years aboard a wide range of vessel types and trade routes.
Born in Seattle, John has a BS degree in Marine Transportation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy; Kings Point, New York, and an MBA from Seattle University. He holds a commission in the United States Naval Reserve. John and his family reside in Tacoma, Washington.
Hugh Simpson
Chief Financial Officer
Hugh L. Simpson joined TOTE in September 2006 as Chief Financial Officer. Hugh is responsible for corporate accounting, financial services, credit and collections, IT and organization-wide quality programs. Hugh comes to TOTE from Sound Transit in Seattle where he was the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for seven years. He played an integral role in financing and implementing the construction of a $2.4 billion light rail transportation segment in the Puget Sound area.
Prior to Sound Transit, Hugh worked for worked for a local municipality, an international distribution company based out of Japan and a medical device manufacturing company located in Texas.
Hugh graduated from the University of Idaho with a B.S. degree in Accounting and is a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants. He and his wife Denise have been married for twenty-one years and live in Kent, Washington with their three sons.
Phil Morrell
Vice President, Marine & Terminal Operations
Phil Morrell is the Vice President Marine & Terminal Operations for Totem Ocean Trailer Express. Phil oversees all segments of TOTE's Marine Operations and the Tacoma Terminal Operations.
Phil has over 22 years experience in the shipping/transportation industry. Before TOTE, he was employed by Todd Pacific Shipyards, Sunmar Shipping, and Holland American Line Westours, Inc., where he held the position of Marine Superintendent, Technical Operations Manager.
Phil earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon. Phil and his family live in West Seattle.
David Kilbourn
Vice President, Commercial
David Kilbourn was named Vice President Commercial in 2010. He is responsible for Sales, Pricing, Marketing and Contract Administration. David joined TOTE in 2002 as the Fairbanks Manager and in 2006 was promoted to Director of Pricing.
Prior to joining TOTE, David spent his career in the food industry in Alaska. He has extensive experience in both retail and wholesale distribution. In 1989, David founded Yukon Express Services, which specialized in foodservice distribution, solving logistical challenges for the food industry, servicing the North Slope oil fields and rural Alaska, as well as the major population centers of railbelt Alaska.
David was raised in Fairbanks and graduated from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Business Administration. David and his wife Aldean have been married for 38 years and have three grown sons. They continue to make their home in Fairbanks.
Maria Campbell
Director, Human Resources
Maria Campbell (Metzger) joined TOTE in May 2010 as Director, Human Resources. She has over 10 years of professional HR experience between the Transportation / Logistics and Publishing industries and is responsible for Organizational Development, Human Resources and Office Administration initiatives.
Prior to joining TOTE, Maria worked in sister company Sea Star Line, LLC headquartered in Jacksonville, FL as Manager, Organizational Development (HR) managing all aspects of the Human Resources operation. In that role, she spent time in Sea Star’s San Juan, Puerto Rico offices in 2008. Prior to joining TOTE, Maria worked for Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics VSA, Inc., formerly known as Distribution & Auto Service. Maria started her Human Resources career in the publishing industry for Vance Publishing Corp. headquartered in Lincolnshire, IL after working overseas as an Instructor.
Maria was raised in Kansas City and graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Business Administration, emphasizing International Business and served as VP Outgoing Exchange for student run international organization AIESEC. She is also PHR certified. Maria now resides in Seattle, Washington.
