TOTE Shipping Requirements

Tote will not accept the following items under any circumstances - in addition to those items listed in the table below:

  1. Any Medical Specimens or Bio-Specimens
  2. Any material classified as "extremely flammable"
  3. Any material that has a number "18" in column 10B of 49 CFR, 172.101

Tote may accept the following items only with prior approval of Terminal Operations:

  1.  Any Hazardous Materials requiring temperature control
  2.  Explosives, 1.5
  3.  Any bulk shipments of flammable, non-flammable, or poison gas (See notes at bottom of page).
  4.  Any material that has a proper shipping name, technical or chemical group name of "Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB)"
  5.  Oxidizers, UN1942, 2067

Notes:

  1. Hazardous trailers must be at the gate prior to 2200 and hazardous paperwork must be received and approved by TOTE prior to 2200.
  2. When "bulk" is used in these requirements it is as defined in 49 CFR.
  3. Materials designated as "Inhalation hazards" must be stowed on Spar Deck Aft and must be at terminal prior to 6pm of ship loading day.
  4. Hazardous Waste shipments must follow procedures in 49 CFR Part 172 and 40 CFR Part 262.
  5. Requirements for all Bulk Tanks:
    1. Bulk Tankers must have lashing points other than ICC bumper with at least a 3 -1/2" opening suitable to pass a chain grab hook.
    2. Initial bulk hazardous loads that have a primary or subsidiary flammable class need to have MSDS submitted to Terminal Operations prior to shipment.
    3. All Bulk tankers need to be in-gated prior to vessel work start for a tank inspection (Certifications and lashing points).
    4. Bulk Tankers will only be accepted with their tanker compartment(s) empty (residual) or filled to at least 80% capacity.
