Reliable, Competitive & Responsive

Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc. (TOTE) owns and operates unique diesel electric roll-on/roll-off trailerships between the Ports of Tacoma, Washington and Anchorage, Alaska.

Founded in 1975 TOTE has been serving our customers and the people of Alaska for over three decades. Our Orca Class vessels, brought into service in 2003, were “Built For Alaska” and have several features and redundancies which were specifically designed solely to service the Alaska trade.

Logistics - It’s What We Do

TOTE can handle complicated project logistics to Anchorage, Alaska. At TOTE, we have a dedicated group of employees, vessels and equipment, with the sole focus of providing the highest standard of cargo transportation service in the Alaska trade.

Our roll-on/roll-off capabilities allow cargo to be loaded safely and efficiently without the use of forklifts and cranes. If it can move on the interstate highway or on a dirt road, it can roll aboard TOTE’s vessels.

TOTE’s interline transportation capabilities allow us to align Lower 48 intermodal trucking, marine transportation and air cargo services. With our network of sister companies and experienced partners, we are committed to solving the toughest transportation and logistic challenges.

Built For Alaska

TOTE’s commitment to Alaska was at the heart of our decision to invest in new ships, terminal, equipment and technology. With the delivery of our two ORCA class vessels in 2003, TOTE renewed our commitment to Alaska and the market we serve. Built for the rigors of Alaska and speed, these vessels can withstand the worst that nature can throw at us between Tacoma and Anchorage.

Meeting the unique demands of Alaska is only part of our business.

Meeting yours is everything else.

Orca Class Capabilities

TOTE’s vessels accommodate any over-the-road trailer sizes, and over-dimensional freight (up to 90 feet long), heavy equipment, and rolling stock up to 200,000 pounds. If it can move on the road, it can be loaded onto our vessels.

Maximum Ro/Ro Capabilities*

  • 95 ft. Overall length
  • 15.5 ft. Wide
  • 17.5 ft. High
  • 200,000 lbs. Maximum, Trailered Weight

*Maximum allowable dimensions and weights for Ro/Ro cargo may vary (+/-) depending upon the configuration of the load and may require review from TOTE’s vessel and engineering group prior to quote and transport. TOTE has added flexibility to use crane operations for loading and discharge for cargo that exceed Ro/Ro capabilities.

Quality

TOTE is committed to continual improvement through our Quality, Health, Safety, Environment and Security Programs. As testament to this commitment, we have received several certifications.
